Camille Alleyne: From a childhood in Trinidad to an amazing career in space technology & education

As a little girl growing up on the isle of Trinidad & Tobago, sitting on her dad’s car trunk gazing at the stars and at a world beyond. Camille, being unusually prescient at a young age, funnelled her curiosity for the stars and space into hard work on her school girl math and science.

This has led to a career at NASA, a stint as an Assistant Programme Scientist for the International Space Station at Johnson Space Center, a passion for education and making a difference, especially with young girls, and a Phd. in education just weeks away, and her own international foundation educating young women in the study of math, science and technology.

What an amazing story of accomplishment!

Sameer Hajee – Leveraging Opportunities with Light

One of the grand challenges outlined by Peter Diamandis & Steve Kotler in their book “Abundance” is that roughly 20% of the world lives without electricity. In sub-Saharan Africa, the number is even higher, with more than 70 percent of the population living without access to electricity. This bottleneck brings with it a collection of consequences.

Today we are going to discuss a solution that provides reliable, clean, sustainable light anytime, anywhere and is hundreds of times more efficient than current solar-based solutions at a fraction of the cost. It is Nuru Energy’s portable modular LED lights.
